I'm Mala Sen, a freelance artist and indie games developer working at Niku Games. I completed my Bachelors and Masters of Fine Art from Kala Bhavana, Visvabharathi University, Santiniketan.

My work includes textile art, paintings, mosaic murals, digital art, 3D modeling, and game design.

In textile art, I weave large-scale tapestries incorporating techniques like crochet and painting on fabric. My textile art has a lot of bright colors and textures. It deals with the relationship between man and nature, specifically the struggle between the two for survival. I strive to depict the unbreakable bond between humans and nature. Where both are depicted as violent and malevolent, forever fighting. Except that whoever wins it is nature that wins because man exists within nature and is, therefore, a part of nature. Where going against nature is an integral part of how it adapts.

My work was twice selected as a finalist for the Kate Derum award for small tapestries in Melbourne, Australia and so was a part of the group exhibition organized by the Australian tapestry workshop in the year 2013 and 2015.

I was commissioned to do a large scale mural measuring 18 by 15 feet for the Nursing College at C.M.C hospital, Vellore, Tamil Nadu.

I have experience teaching drawing to design students and have also taken workshops on weaving with found fibers. I keep up with my practice and style by a lot of sketching and painting in watercolors, where I focus on a lot of green, leafy scenes and caricatures of people going about their daily life. I also have a special interest in portraits and self-portraits.

As a games developer at Niku games, I work with digital art, 3D modeling, and game design. Please visit nikugames.com to check out our games.
